I volunteering as a candy striper at the age of 11, at Monmouth Medical Center in their Geriatric Floor. I would fill water jugs and bring patients their newspapers for the day. I eventually became a nurse at Monmouth Medical, ironically working in the same wing where I first volunteered. They had changed this wing to a Dialysis Unit. I became a Dialysis Nurse and worked in the inpatient Critical Unit and Outpatient Unit as well. I left the nursing world when I gave birth to a special needs child in 2003. I was called to stay home to help my baby thrive. That baby is now almost 17 years old. I knew growing up, all I wanted to do was help people.
