Ms. DeTorres is the managing partner and co-founder of DeTorres & DeGeorge Family Law with offices in Morristown and Flemington, New Jersey. D|D is a boutique law firm specializing in divorce and family law and estate planning. The firm prides itself on settling 99% of all divorce cases without going to court in about half the time of the statewide average. Rosanne DeTorres is one of 150 attorneys in the State of NJ that is certified by the NJ Supreme Court as a Matrimonial Law Attorney.

Ms. DeTorres graduated from The Johns Hopkins University in 1985 and graduated with Honor from The University of Maryland School of Law in 1988.

She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1988, the New Jersey Bar in 1994 and the Pennsylvania Bar in 1997.

Ms. DeTorres concentrates her practice in family law cases, including divorce, custody, grandparent’s rights, domestic violence, and is a trained family mediator. She is also in a 3-year post graduate educational training program for estate planning. Ms. DeTorres is also trained as a Collaborative Law attorney. She is an accomplished Appellate attorney having taken a number of cases to the New Jersey Appellate Division and New Jersey Supreme Court.

Ms. DeTorres is a member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the NJ State Bar Association, the Hunterdon County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

Ms. DeTorres was named to the NJ Super Lawyers List for 2015 to 2017. Her firm was named one of the Top 500 fastest growing law firms in the U.S. by Law Firm 500. She has been appointed to Finance Committee of Hunterdon County United Way and the Local Business Community Leadership Council of the Hunterdon County United Way. Ms. DeTorres was also nominated for NJ BIZ 50 Best Women in Business and as a Leading Women Entrepreneurs two years in a row. Last year, Ms. DeTorres was a finalist for this distinction. Ms. DeTorres also won the Best Lawyer category for the 2015 Hunterdon Happenings Award and was a 2016 finalist. Ms. DeTorres is also graduate of the Leadership Hunterdon Class of 2016. Ms. DeTorres is a member of the Board of Trustees of BW Nice, an organization that provides networking opportunities for women business owners and financial support to local domestic violence agencies. She is also the author of two books: Breakthrough Results and Divorce: The Answers You Need Before, During & After.

ADVOCACY FOR WOMEN

Through her professional career, Ms. DeTorres has been an advocate for women. She has served on the Board of Trustees for Anderson House, a halfway house for women recovering from alcohol and drug dependency. She served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Women’s Crisis Services, now known as SAFE in Hunterdon, helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. She has been a volunteer attorney for many years representing victims of domestic violence. Before Women’s Crisis Services had a legal advocate on staff, she handled most all of the domestic violence representation for the agency.

More recently, Ms. DeTorres has been a member of BW Nice (Business Women Networking Involving Charity & Education) for a number of years and a member of the Board of Trustees for the parent organization, BW Nice LLC for 3 years. BW Nice chapters provide networking opportunities for women business owners and they also raise money by hosting charity events for local domestic violence agencies.

Ms. DeTorres is the author of an easy-to-read primer on divorce that she makes available free of charge in electronic form to anyone in need. This book is an excellent resource for anyone looking to leave an unhappy or abusive marriage.

DeTorres & DeGeorge has provided intern opportunities to women obtaining their paralegal certificate.

Ms. DeTorres overcame significant professional obstacles in building a law firm literally from the ground up. Initially lacking many entrepreneurial skills needed to build and operate a successful business, there were many setbacks along the way. Just to name a few, these included poor tax planning leading to big tax liabilities; what she calls the “shiny object syndrome” leading to poor choices in hiring and technology purchases; and a meandering path of two steps forward and three steps back in creating the internal systems needed to make the business essentially run itself. Lawyers don’t go to business school so there was a steep learning curve that she accepted with enthusiasm. The process of becoming a successful entrepreneur and building a “rock star” team that is cohesive, professional and fun to be around, has been the the most rewarding experience of her life.
